Welcome back. I was trying to install  your wonderful program for a friend this weekend and I saw the site was down. I thought, for a moment, the Beeb got to you.

I live in the USA and I have been successful at running your wonderful program over here through  proxy server. However,  the past several days when I run either version of iPlayer Grabber ( 0.9.5 or 2.0+),, I get the following error message; "Unable to parse the metadata for this programme.As a workaround, you can use the -f option to specify a filename manually."

Can you please help me out?

Do you have a "Guide" on how to use this when it's the windows version?

It's just i'm not getting "prompted" to save the episode when I open it, and I didn't know if it was still supposed to, my only information being from the mini walkthrough/guide you wrote for your origional MAC OS version.

I love iPlayer grabber - thanks so much for it!
In the last week I have been unable to download radio programmes - TV seems to work but not radio.  I guess it is something to do with the Beta version of iPlayer; does anyone else have this problem, and anyone a solution...?

Thanks for putting this program together!

I just downloaded and installed your latest version of Grabber, but like Raven above, I can't see how you'r meant to use it.

I launched the program, went to an episode of a show, drilled down on it and at the bottom left of the screen it asked if I wanted to add the show to my download queue. I clicked it once, nothing happened, I clicked it twice, the little box asking me if I wanted to add it to the queue disappeared, but still nothing happened.

I closed Grabber, re-opened it and tried again. This time I noticed that there was a box on the right of the screen that said "Download queue is empty". After going through the exact same steps as above, at no point did this box on the right display anything other than "Download queue is empty".

I have checked the preferences to see if there is anything strange there, but they just seem to be download preferences. Nothing seems to indicate a button to start a download.

I then went back and downloaded the previous version of Grabber and when I clicked on a programme it instantly asked if I'd like to download it, I said yes, and the download began.

I am running Snow Leopard 10.6.2.

Can you please advise whether I've missed something very obvious here?

tried downloading a TV show today (5th July 2010) and the file size remains at zero kb. i tried both the BBC HD and BBC One versions of the show, neither worked. Radio shows seem to work still however.

Then I returned to this site, and saw a more recent version was available, v2+, so downloaded and given this a go, but still it is having issues.

Has something been updated for TV Shows recently?

There seem to be a few issues with this version:
1) The download queue button will show "Download queue empty" when the number of shows being downloaded is less than or equal to the setting for "Maximum simultaneous downloads". I've currently set this to 1 so I can view the queue, but it still doesn't show if I only want to download 1 item.

2) There appears to be no progress bar for the downloads, so the only way I can tell if it is downloading is to look in the folder and see if the file size is increasing.

3) There appears to be no way to cancel a download which is in progress. Queued downloads can be removed from the queue, but the only way to cancel a download is to exit the application - and this doesn't delete the file if the "Delete file if download is cancelled" option is enabled.

Thanks for iPlayer Grabber - it's great!

I've had a few problems using it on OSX. Sometimes it will stop part way through a download and report that there is an error - but doesn't say what. Navigating to a different BBC programme, then back to the original one and clicking download again generally solves the problem It carries on where it left off and downloads fine.

I've also had a problem with corrupt downloads. I downloaded the latest Doctor Who. Three episodes were corrupt and stopped playing part way through. Two of them I downloaded again and they were fine. The third had gone by the time I tried playing it. So if anyone has a copy of The Lodger...

Thanks again for all the work you must have put into this application.

Hi - when I get the can't grab, if it's new try later error message - does this mean it "might' work later, or is this wishful thinking ...

It's a v long programme 5 hrs is that an issue?

@withakay I changed my port from '127.0.0.1' to '127.0.0.1:8080' which now gets rid of the proxy error, so thanks for your help there.

But now I have a new problem. When I attempt to download a programme, even an old one, I get this error:

"sorry, we couldn't grab this programme. If it's new, try again later."

Is anyone else having this issue?

If anyone else is having the same problem dowloading...

I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.4 and just downloaded latest available version of iPlayer Grabber v2.0.3 and it failed to download anything of the BBC iPlayer Beta site which was default location...iPlayer Grabber just played the radio show and TV show I selected and the Download Queue Is Empty box remained empty.

I saw on the iPlayer Beta site a bitton to return to current iPlayer site, selecting that and returning to the 'old/current' style iPlayer site, selecting the same radio and TV shows resolves the download issue and the downloads started straight away with the Download Queue showing download progress.

I am trying to use 146.191.228.22:8080.  How should I define this in the proxy setting ?

Hi,

Brilliant program but it's tempermental. Currently getting "sorry we can't download...if the programme is new try again later." but prog isn't new and trying again still fails to grab the prog.

Some progs still work so I'm guessing this might be something that the BBC have changed?

Any info?

hi.

i'm not particularly clued up about all this computer business. I'm in Berlin.
I have a new macbook pro, snow leopard operating system, i downloaded this i grabber thing and i try and add something to my download and it says, sorry its new, try again.

does this mean it wont work or is it just a problem with iplayer itself.

If someone could help it would be much appreciated. Thanks

Great program. Unfortunately I'm experiencing problems with the new Beta iPlayer. When trying to download radio programmes, it plays the stream rather than asking me to add it to the download queue. TV programmes work ok though.

Nothing will download for me at the moment. I tried with the old version of the grabber and then upgraded, and still things aren't working?

Hi thanks for this fantastic program. Have used it for some time now.
I accidentally clicked on the use beta edition, tried to reinstall the older edition but no joy.
Able to still download tv programmes and the odd film but don't seem to be able to download
radio shows??? wondering if this isn't possible now or i'm missing something?
only after two shows "i'm sorry i haven't a clue" and "Just a minute" seems when selected the open straight to a player in separate window.

Grateful for any comments or advice.

Thanks @withakay. I was able to get a step close to downloading content.

But now I've reached a more generic error: 'sorry, we couldn't grab this programme. This probably means that the programme does not exist.' - http://twitpic.com/2fb5uq

Is this the BBC blocking out iPlayer Grabber or am I doing something wrong again?

mmm, doen't seem to do anything on Mac OSX 10.5.8.

As mentioned above nothing gets added top the download queue an the add to queue button vanishes.

Any advice?

Hey there!

I've been a long time user and fan of v1 on my Mac. I'm trying to install v2 on Ubuntu and am having some difficutly. I'm more at home installing things through either the package manager or using Terminal, so I'm at a bit of a loss as to what I should be doing here.

I've installed ruby and ruby gems (both v1.8) and downloaded the .tgz. I've extracted that, and tried to run the installer in the folder "installer." I get an error message: "The installer was not given enough information to continue."

Any ideas, folks? Am I doing anything wrong here?

Upon trying to run this version under Ubuntu Linux 10.04, I encountered the following error:


iPlayer Grabber: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0: undefined symbol: g_malloc_n


Resolved the error as per the instructions in the following post:

developer.appcelerator.com/.../symbol-lookup-error-usrliblibgdk-x11-20so0-undefined-symbol-gmallocn-solved

However, the path to the shared library files to be removed is in within the application directory itself, rather than in the ~/.titanium directory mentioned in the post:


$  rm iPlayer\ Grabber-2.0.3/runtime/libgobject-2.0.*
$  rm iPlayer\ Grabber-2.0.3/runtime/libgio-2.0.*
$  rm iPlayer\ Grabber-2.0.3/runtime/libgthread-2.0.*
$  rm iPlayer\ Grabber-2.0.3/runtime/libglib-2.0.*

Hi,

I have been using the older version for a few months and have loved it.  The only niggle was the inability to queue up the downloads.  Otherwise, it has been fantastic.  Thank you so much for enabling us to access the programmes in a sensible way.

I have just downloaded the new version with queing and I don't see any activity once I press the on the pink ' "Add xxxxx.mp4" to the download queue?' bar.  Nothing is added to the queue.  I have re-booted. Still nothing.

OS X 10.5.8

I have not specified a HTTP proxy (as I have no idea what an HTTP Proxy environment variable is).

I am using a VPN (My_Private_Network) to access the Beeb and it is always on for using the Grabber.

I hope you can help as this is the most useful / used application I have for video.

If you are having trouble using a proxy then use this format in the app's settings:

username:password@proxy-address:8080

I had the unable to parse error until I realised I needed to add my authentication. The proxy address should be like a standard IP address, and the 8080 at the end is the standard HTTP port.

You also need to add these credentials into Safari's proxy settings like you do to watch the iPlayer as a standard streaming experience, except Safari has boxes for you to add username and password, so obviously don't add these to the proxy address, plus add the 8080 part to the port number box.

It works great for me now, although it won't download HD in a higher resolution, but I suspect that is a limitation of the software and not a proxy issue.

Hope this helps anyone using a proxy server outside the UK
